Fletch Wiley playing fluegelhorn

Over the years, I've had the opportunity do a number of arrangements designed to feature a solo instrumentalist. It was a great blessing to be able to collaborate with Fletch Wiley to produce a number of collections for Word Music, two of which were nominated for Dove Awards for Best Instrumental Recording. Fletch has a wonderfully expressive style of playing, both on flute and on trumpet, and these arrangements have been used by countless players for a number of years. Unfortunately, most of these books are now out of print, but a few are still available at the Word Music website. Two pieces published by Genevox, "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing," and "Wherever He Leads, I'll Go," are some of my personal favorites. Both were written originally for solo instrument and orchestra, but are now available in a piano accompaniment version. These and other solo arrangements I've done, including the Rejoice book for trumpet and piano, are listed on the Music for Solo Instrument page of my website.

A unique resource which I mentioned in a previous post is Alabanza Cubana para Instrumentos (Cuban Praise for Instruments). This collection features 10 songs from the Alabanza Cubana hymnal, arranged for solo instrument with piano or mp3 accompaniment tracks. For something a little different, give this one a try! How do you enjoy using arrangements for solo instrument, either as a player yourself, or with the musicians you work with? Write me and let me know at david@davidwinkler.com
